FED CHALLENGE COMPETITION
The FED CHALLENGE promotes economic literacy by asking PHS students to analyze economic conditions and recommend an appropriate course for monetary policy in a 15-minute. The FED CHALLENGE encourages the development of important skills such as: research and analysis; decision-making; argument formulation; and effective communication.
EURO CHALLENGE COMPETITION
The EURO CHALLENGE is an exciting educational opportunity for students to make presentations answering specific questions about the European economy as a whole and the single currency, the euro. In 2006, PHS students placed 2nd and received $5,000 in scholarships in the EURO CHALLENGE.
JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT JOB SHADOWING
JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT introduces students to careers through one-day, on-site orientations. . The program helps PHS students apply job-related skills, develop workplace competencies and observe how each person plays an important role in the operation of a local business.
BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS CLUB
The BUSINESS & ECONOMICS CLUB promotes the exchange of ideas on economic topics and increases the understanding of past and present economic issues. Students in the BUSINESS & ECONOMICS CLUB participate in numerous Stock Market simulations throughout the school year.
AP ECONOMICS FIELD TRIP
PHS students visit the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the largest of the twelve regional banks where monetary policy in the United States is implemented. Students also visit the New York Mercantile Exchange, the largest physical commodity futures exchange.
