Questions to Ask When Choosing a College
* What GPA are you looking for? SAT scores?
* Where do most of your students come from geographically?
* What are the 3 top favorite majors?
* Do you have a core curriculum you follow the 1st two years?
* Is it hard to get in to popular courses/core courses?
* What's the workload like?
* What's dorm life like? Do the dorms have a "quiet" time for studying?
* Is there guaranteed housing all four years? Do you have to live in a dorm your first year ?
* Are you a 4 or 5 year school because of the difficulty getting courses?
* How is the crime rate on and around campus?
* What are the strong points/weak points in the town/city where the college is located?
* What happens on the weekend? What is the social life like? Tell me about the Greek system.
* Are classes taught by TAs (teacher assistants) and/or teachers who are hot PhDs?
* Are there study groups outside of the lecture class?
* Is the study body diverse? Are there any tensions between groups of students?
* How available are the professors to the students?
* What's the average size of a class during freshman/sophomore year? What's the student population?
* Do you have to declare your major before the end of the second year?
* Do you have to have a certain GPA to be accepted into a school within the college?
* Can you have a car as a freshman?
* How many freshman leave after their freshman year?
* What type of orientation program does your college conduct for new students?
* Do you have overnight programs for future students?
* Library facilities? Hours? How much time do students spend there?
* Wireless environment? In library? In dorm room? Where available?
* What percentage of students is from out of state?
* Do you have internship programs?
* Will I have an advisor to help me with scheduling and program-related questions?
* Do you offer tutoring services if I need them?
* Is public transportation available?
